Sephora SEA’s omni channel business spans over 8 countries (Australia, India, Indonesia, Malaysia, New Zealand, the Philippines, Singapore and Thailand) with 100+ stores and boasts some global flagships such as ION and Raffles City in Singapore, F88 in Kuala Lumpur and Pitt Street in Sydney. Sephora SEA is experiencing rapid growth in the region with new store openings and business channels (i.e., Click and collect and marketplace).

Software Engineer (User)

As a Software Engineer that is part of the User Squad, you will participate in the design and development of backend systems and services, contributing to clean and scalable distributed architectures as the company grows. You will help deliver a reliable and personalised experience to Sephora’s 1.4 million monthly active users across Southeast Asia and Oceania via our Ecommerce platforms. 

This role reports to our Engineering Manager, and you will work on high-visibility projects that directly impact customer lifetime value – our core KPI.

• Designing and developing robust backend services while building clean and scalable distributed systems
• Delivering reliable user and loyalty experiences to Sephora’s customer base across the SEAO Ecommerce system
• Working on highly visible projects that directly impact customer lifetime value and retention
• Building and maintaining event-driven integrations across microservices
• Delivering personalized and localized experiences for users across various countries in the region
• Using modern agentic tools in a structured manner to increase individual productivity and maintain high code quality

We would love to hear from you if you are/have…

• 3+ years of professional experience building production-grade backend applications using Java 17+ and Spring Boot
• Strong proficiency with relational and non-relational databases, including PostgreSQL/MySQL and MongoDB
• Solid understanding of the Java ecosystem: Hibernate, JDBC, Maven, and Gradle
• Familiarity with event streaming (Kafka) and/or message queuing systems (RabbitMQ)
• Familiarity using AI-assisted development tools (e.g., Claude Code, GitHub Copilot) to improve productivity and code quality
• Familiarity with structured AI-assisted development practices
• Familiarity working in cloud environments such as AWS or GCP
• Familiarity with frontend frameworks such as VueJS or NuxtJS is a strong plus
